FANTASTIC FACT!
Quarrying is believed to be the oldest industry in Britain. Much of the stone used in the building of Stonehenge around 2500BC, came from rock loosened by glaciers and rivers which was then quarried. It is now believed that the ancient quarry which produced the "Bluestones" – the inner circle of Stonehenge – was situated on Salisbury Plain, a staggering 240 miles away. The quarry equipment used and the transportation method still remain unclear.
