Print Administration Work

(Customer Service Representatives / Account Managers / Project Managers)

Print administrators can be involved in many of the different tasks within print production. Depending on the size of the organisation their responsibilities can include some staff control or management of the plant, supervision of the print process - through ordering, pre-press work, machine printing and finishing. They can also be expected to manage different print orders at the same time, so that all the available print machinery is continuously in use. Some print administrators are also involved in quality control and ensuring products are ready on time.

These duties require a wide range of skills and a good understanding of the whole print manufacturing process. For this reason most administrators complete some form of print sector work experience before starting in an administration role. In order to coordinate the activities of the different members of the print team they need strong communication skills. These are also used for direct contact with customers and business managers. Administrators also need good negotiation skills they may be involved in estimation work. With experience, promotion to supervisory, departmental manager and then other senior posts in general management are possible, once relevant higher level qualifications have been completed.

GCSEs in English, maths, art and IT are all valued highly by print sector employers and work based qualifications such as the Level 3 NVQ in Print Management and Administration, are available, as are Apprenticeships for those under 24 who show enthusiasm and commitment.
