Ashley Morris

Aylesford Newsprint Ltd

Ashley Morris has just become the first person in the UK to get
the new Apprenticeship in Paper and Board Manufacture.
I achieved 11 GCSE’s at A-C grade when I finished school but I
decided that going to college was not for me. I wanted to be
able to earn money as well as continue my education.

My uncle works at a paper mill and from his experiences I was
able to get an insight into the industry and it was something of
interest to me and so I took on a Paper and Board Manufacture
Advanced Apprenticeship at Aylesford Newsprint Ltd.
The Apprenticeship took 4 years but I am glad I took the route
I did. I was able to experience different areas of the business
and work with different people.

Aylesford Newsprint were very helpful and supportive
throughout my apprenticeship, to earn while you learn and
have company backing is great motivation.

To be the first in the UK to get the new Apprenticeship in Paper
and Board manufacture is a fantastic reward and I have also
now completed a high national certificate. Next month I plan
on starting the high national diploma for paper and board
manufacture as I wish to continue my career within the paper
industry and one day reach management level Nothing
compares to the hands on experience I had alongside my
study and I don’t think I would be able to work at the level I do
without that.
