Celine Drean - Coatings Technologist

I'm Celine Drean. I'm 25 years old, and I'm a Technologist in the coatings industry. In a typical day I make paints, developing new products or improving existing ones. This means testing new materials to make paints out of, monitoring costs, making sure it meets all the right standards, plus helping out the marketing team who are trying to sell my paints. I work in the development laboratory, and have a lot to do with other people in the lab, plus production, quality control and marketing teams.

Best bits of my job

I learn new things and work on new paints every day. I also get to solve lots of problems, and work with people from all around the company. I'm really proud that I make useful products that are sold all over the country.

What's not so great...

Spending more time cleaning at work than in my house!

How I got here

I was studying chemistry at university and did some work experience in the coatings field. I really enjoyed it, so I decided to explore it further. A former student at my university, now working at a coatings company called SigmaKalon in France, sent my CV to the head office. They asked me to come along to a recruitment day, and when I did, they made me an offer.
