The Building Sector
This sector has three major sub-sectors:
- Clay building products
- Precast concrete building products
- Refractory products
Within the UK over 90% of the companies in the industry employ fewer than 50 employees. However most staff are employed by a few very large companies. Six examples of these large companies that you may have heard of, in alphabetical order are:

- Vesuvius
This sector plays a very important role in the UK’s construction industry, also providing other materials such as plaster products and fibre cement which are vital for construction purposes.

- Almost 50,000 UK employees
- Around 80% of companies employ under 20 staff
- Employment is spread across the UK but the largest presence is in the Midlands
- Dependant largely on the construction industry
