On the 5th October, the UK Master Fitter Competition saw six automotive glazing technicians from across the UK pitting their skills against each other as they repaired and replaced a windscreen, as well as a side and rear window, within a specified timeframe and under the close scrutiny of experienced judges.

At this time of year students across the country are receiving their exam results – some will be happy, some will be disappointed, but they all have to think about what comes next.

We’re pleased to report that the recent PrintIT! awards ceremony in Harrogate was a real success, showcasing Britain’s emerging talent and illustrating what a vibrant, dynamic industry print really is.

Last week the Government announced that unemployment dropped and yet for young people it continued to rise by another 12,000, pushing the total young people out of work and not in training or education close to the ONE MILLION mark.

It has been quite an important couple of weeks and the developments have been very good for all of us in the Process and Manufacturing Sector.
The Government has put its faith in skills development and is giving SSCs more power to do what our employers want us to.

January was a busy month, and although the break over Christmas was welcome it is good to get back into the swing of things.
A major talking point from the recent weeks is Proskills attendance at the Advance Manufacturing Growth Summit and I was very encouraged by it, it is clear that the Government is in full support of British Manufacturing and there is a distinct willingness to help encourage growth of the sector.
We are making good progress with the Joint Investment Programme and the good news is that there are still spaces available for co-funded training, so get in touch!

November has been a big month for the future of skills with the release of the government’s new Skills Strategy.

October has been busy to say the least, we had a nerve-racking time awaiting the outcomes of the Comprehensive Spending Review and there has been flurry of activity in launching this years Schools Into Industry Programmes.
I am especially pleased to announce that CourseFinder is now live through the Academy website.

If you haven’t heard already, there is just one month left to enter for our annual awards and I really hope you take this opportunity to show what the sector has to offer.
This month, I took part in a 52 mile walk to raise funds for Sense, the leading national charity that supports children and adults who are deafblind. It was a real experience and sense of achievement and I would like to thank you for all your support and donations as we raised over £2K for Sense.
