Paper Manufacturing Standards

Proskills are currently developing National Occupational Standards for Paper Manufacturing.

National Occupational Standards define what an individual needs to do, know, and understand in order to carry out a particular job. They are a useful tool to ensure training and qualifications reflect what is actually happening in the workplace. As you will recognise, we all need to make sure we have an up-to-date and relevant set of National Occupational Standards to help us through these difficult times. To do this we need your help.

Proskills have been working with practitioners from various paper mills to put together a draft set of Standards and we are inviting you to comment.

The consultation period will be open from Monday 15th February to the Friday 26th February.

There are 6 documents as detailed below but please don’t feel you have to work through all of the documents. We are happy to take your comments on whatever you have the time to look at.

However we are most anxious to get as many responses as possible on Document 2 – Standards by role and Document 3 – Area 1 Manufacturing Paper

If you could please track any changes and comments and returning the document, by emailing Richard Moore or Debbie Warren, or by writing on a paper copy and sending it to us at: Paper NOS Consultation, Proskills, Centurion Court, 85b Milton Park, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, OX14 4RY.

Whichever way you choose we must have your comments by close of business on Friday 26th February.

  • The key area map (This contains a definition of paper manufacturing, and a one page diagram showing the activities that are involved in paper manufacturing).
We are interested in whether you think these accurately describe paper manufacturing and if not, how they should be amended.
  • Standards by role (This short questionnaire contains titles and summaries that we think are applicable to the roles of Operator and Senior Operator. This will be used to design the structure of qualifications).
Please take the time to complete the tick boxes for one or both of these roles to let us know which activities are applicable to each role.
  • Area 1 Manufacturing Paper (This is the current draft of the full standards for this area).
Please take the time to read this document and correct any parts that you think are incorrect.
  • Area 2 Manufacturing Paper Management (This is the current draft of the full standards for this area).
Please take the time to read this document and correct any parts that you think are incorrect.
  • Area 3 Managing Self (This is the current draft of the full standards for this area). Please take the time to read this document and correct any parts that you think are incorrect.
  • Area 4 People Management (This is the current draft of the full standards for this area).
Please take the time to read this document and correct any parts that you think are incorrect.
