Pan Sector H&S
In 2009 Proskills took the lead for the Skills for Business Network (SfBN) in the pan sector generic Health and Safety (H&S) project. This followed on from work that had been undertaken in 2007. The initial project involved reviewing the number of generic H&S national occupational standards (NOS), H&S training courses and H&S qualifications. At the offset of the initial project there were over 5000 NOS in existence. A mapping exercise began to attempt to identify common strands across the SfBN.
In 2009 Proskills worked with a group of stakeholders to ensure that key generic H&S units including generic NOS were developed into Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) units in preparation for the development of subsequent qualifications. The custodianship of the original ‘Ento’ H&S generic standards was passed to Proskills at the same time, along with the apprenticeship framework. This work was the forerunner to the main project.
The future (2010)
Research will be undertaken by Proskills to gain the Labour Market information (LMI ) to develop a sector qualifications strategy and action plan for pan sector H&S; this will be an over-arching UK-wide strategic document that will highlight the needs of the sector and set out the vision of future qualifications and training across the footprint. A steering group will be formed to manage the process; the group will be made up of key stakeholders, SSCs, Training Providers, AO’s and TU reps and employers, the first meeting of this group will be in July 2010.
