Diplomas
Diplomas are new work-related qualifications for 14-19 year old, designed to prepare young people for the world of work, by developing sector-relevant skills, and knowledge. The Diplomas bring learning to life by combining classroom learning with practical experience. Graduates will emerge with the skills , knowledge and attitudes required by employers in the 21st century.
The Diploma qualification is available at 3 levels:
- Foundation level – equivalent to 5*GCSE (grade D-G)
- Higher level – equivalent to 7* GCSE (grade A* – C)
- Advanced level – equivalent to 3 ½ A levels
The structure of the Diploma is:
- Principal learning: study topics which provide a better understanding of the Diploma topic are and related sector
- Generic learning which involves:
a project linked to the principal learning
a minimum of 10 days work experience
functional skills in English, Maths and Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
- Additional / Specialist learning: additional course that adds value to the Diploma

Diploma in Manufacturing and Product Design
- Learn about the processes, systems and control involved in manufacturing a product profitably. Topics covered include research, design and budgeting, as well as prototyping, testing and assembly and finally packaging, distribution, marketing and sales.
- Is built around 3 themes:
Product design and materials science
Business and Enterprise
Production Systems

- Introduces students to an innovative and high profile sector, and gives them hands-on experience of key creative and media activities such as project managing, developing ideas and communicating through a variety of media.

- The Diploma in C&BE is based on a combination of class work and practical learning relevant to construction and the built environment.
- Theoretical and technical knowledge from the construction and built environment sector
- For the Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment your course will look at 3 main areas: Designing, creating and valuing and using the built environment
