About the Conference

The conference will be divided into two parts. A plenary session commencing at 10.00 will precede a series of ‘toolkit sessions’ and roundtable discussions that attendees will be able to select from in advance. Please see the agenda for full details.

  • Sustainability is more than just understanding the competition and having sound accounting.
  • The Manufacturer noted in a recent article that manufacturers and processors should consider 4 strategies to be leaner and more flexible once the economy recovers. One of those strategies is to implement sustainability initiatives that impact the bottom line. WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) is a Government funded delivery body that has been working with UK industry to improve resource efficiency, a key pillar of sustainability, and contributor to the bottom line. Since 2001, WRAP has engaged with both public and private sectors across construction, retail, packaging, printing, and materials reprocessing & recycling industry.

    Mervyn Jones, WRAP’s Head of Manufacturing, will set resource efficiency in the context of carbon footprinting and the wider sustainability agenda. The presentation will cover:

    1. Introduction to resource efficiency covering waste reduction, re-use, recovery & recycling;
    2. The drivers for improving resource efficiency - including regulatory, voluntary agreements and client demand;
    3. Examples of the potential benefits across construction, retail and manufacturing supply chains;
    4. Resource efficiency tools and resources available to business; and
    5. Contact details and further sources of information from Defra’s delivery bodies - including Envirowise, Centre for Reuse and Remanufacturing and NISP.

Options for Workshops

Delegates are asked to select 3 from the following options. Every attempt to give you the options of your first choice will be made, however, places will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis; a maximum of 40 delegates per breakout session has been allowed for.

Toolkit sessions and speakers may be subject to change depending on demand and availability.

There will be ample time for those delegates who will be joining us at our Apprenticeship Awards Dinner in the evening to enjoy the facilities offered by the hotel and country club prior to commencement of the evening celebrations at 1900.
