Standards & Qualifications

As a result of working closely with Employers from the Coatings sector, Proskills has developed a Qualifications Strategy and Action Plan reflecting the current and future needs of employers and learners. The new qualifications will lead to more flexibility, providing the breadth and depth necessary to meet the demands from changes in job descriptions and career progressions.

The new 14-19 Diplomas are included and will sit alongside the vocational qualifications providing employers and universities with school leavers with the relevant skill sets. Supporting the Qualifications Strategy is sound market research based on primary sources gained from questionnaires, telephone and face to face interviews with employers in the sector.

This programme of work was developed with employers and other key stakeholders through the Coatings Qualification Reform Group, who also monitor the implementation of the strategy. Production of Coatings

We are now reviewing the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Producing Surface Coatings. Standards describe what an employee should be able to do and what they should understand. NOS are mainly used as building blocks for qualifications, although there are many other uses.

We need individuals who understand the skills and duties required within a coatings environment now and in the future, to step forward to read the current standards and advise us if revision is required and what form it should take. We will be holding our first Review meeting on Thursday 18th August.
If you wish to get involved and attend this meeting, please contact Paula Wright on paula.wright@proskills.co.uk.
If you are unable to attend, but wish to give feedback on the current Standards, please also contact Paula on her email address.

A little effort now will make a great deal of difference to the well-being of the industry.
