Training and Funding

Part of Proskills remit is to provide our employers with access to industry-relevant and quality-assured training solutions and programmes as well as access to available funding to support the costs of training undertaken.
To date there has been a reluctance to train across the whole of our industries sector. Reasons given for this include, it is the wrong sort of training that has to date been funded, coupled with the fact that the process to draw down funding has been too complex.

The Academy will be the vehicle for employers and employees to access quality-assured and industry-relevant training solutions as well as available funding. A team of Regional Managers is in place, that is tasked with helping employers to identify training needs, pinpoint training solutions, identify the right provision as well as available funding support. In phase one of the Academy set up, the Academy Regional Team will not be working in isolation but in partnership with the Proskills Sector Skills Council Regional Team and Industry Leaders to ensure that employers from all 9 industries are justly represented and responded to.

Research confirms that those companies that invest in training are 2.5 times more likely to survive the recession and interestingly companies that have invested in skills training over the last 12 months are more likely to have experienced business growth. Training would appear to hold the key. But this is not just about training for the sake of training; this is about having access to the right kind of provision and undertaking training that adds real value to your bottom line.
‘Investment in skills training’ pays off and that those companies that engage in training will see a measurable improvement on their bottom-line.

To date companies in the Building Products Industry have accessed funding via Proskills to the amount of £1,578,100 which equates to 886 learners; a further £5,153,600 is in the pipeline, which equates to 2866 learners. (Status 01 July 2009)
