Apprenticeship Week 2009

Proskills announces its 2009 Apprenticeship Awards as part of Apprenticeship Week to find the sector's best apprentices.
Apprenticeship Week 2009 aims to raise the profile of apprenticeships in the workplace, highlight the benefits of apprenticeships in tackling crucial skills shortages, celebrate the achievements of apprentices and the role they play in todayÕs business, and encourage more employers to take on apprentices.
Launched in 2008 by the Learning and Skills Council, Apprenticeship Week 2009 marks the second year of this successful initiative to demonstrate the key role apprenticeships play in ensuring that the UK workforce has the skills it needs to remain competitive.
Apprenticeship Week coincides with a recent announcement by the government, of a £1 billion investment into apprenticeships by 2010/2011, as well as committing a further £140 million to fund an additional 35,000 apprenticeships next year to help strengthen the countries competiveness and beat the downturn.
