February 2010
|
|
|
Hello and Welcome,
This year is certainly
going by quickly and although February has been a difficult month at
Proskills, there has been plenty happening across the sector.
This month, we launched our 2010 apprenticeship awards
and we are excited to introduce the three new award categories; for
Employers, Providers and Vocational Learners. We are looking forward
to seeing the entries come in.
So, please nominate not only our deserving learners but any of our
employer or training provider from the sector who continue to show
their commitment to training.

Johnson Tiles
in-house apprenticeship scheme
Johnson Tiles produce wall and
floor tiles to the highest standards and this excellence in quality
and design is recognised throughout the ceramics industry.
Over recent years, Johnson Tiles have had some difficulty in
attracting school leavers from ages 16 to 18 into the Ceramic
Industry and so with succession planning in mind have recently
introduced an in-house departmental apprenticeship scheme with the
aim of attracting young people into the industry.

Find out how
vocational qualifications can help your business
Proskills has been working closely with the Government to create a new
website and advertising campaign designed to increase employer awareness
and involvement in vocational reform.
The website is designed to inform all employers, including
those in the process and manufacturing sector, about changes to the
vocational qualification landscape, including reforms to make all
qualifications focus on choice, clarity and confidence.
The site is part of a joint project with Business Link and
the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, designed to ensure
that each sector's businesses are at the heart of the changes.
Terry Watts, CEO of Proskills UK, said: "Developing a
competent workforce is critical to business success. Vocational
qualifications are a great way of ensuring that employees have the right
skills in line with business needs and it is very important that
employers discover how the new qualifications will add value to the
training they undertake."
The changes come amid a wider reform of vocational
qualifications across all sectors. The Vocational Qualification Reform
programme will see qualifications across every industry streamlined so
that they are easier to understand and access. The new set of bite-sized
qualifications will have simpler titles and clear indicators of how long
each one takes to complete, its difficulty and its subject matter.
